Keep the answer exact

The solver extracts perfect-square factors and combines roots only when their square-free radicands match. It also applies bounded integer exponent laws to one-variable monomials.

Simplify a radical

72=62\sqrt{72}=6\sqrt{2}

Combine like radicals

18+8=52\sqrt{18}+\sqrt{8}=5\sqrt{2}

Apply exponent laws

x2x3=x5x^2x^3=x^5

Current limitations

  • Square roots must contain nonnegative exact numeric values.
  • Variable radicals and radical equations are not supported.
  • Exponent expressions must reduce to one variable monomial without sums or variable denominators.
  • General cubic and higher polynomial expansion is still outside this capability.

Questions

Exponent and radical calculator FAQ

Which radicals are supported?

The current solver simplifies square roots of nonnegative exact rational numbers, including products and sums of like numeric radicals.

Which exponent rules are supported?

It multiplies one-variable monomials, adds exponents for like bases, and multiplies exponents for a power of a power. The final exponent is capped at 64.

Does it solve radical equations?

Not yet. Variable radicals, radical equations, negative real square roots, and general higher-degree polynomial expansion are rejected explicitly.
